Nishan-E-Sikhi Training Centre for Civil Services Examination

MISSION

The Nishan-E-Sikhi Training Centre for Civil Services Examination (NSCS) is committed to train a broad community of students, especially the underprivileged rural ones for the success in the coveted Central and State Civil Services Examinations conducted by UPSC/PPSC every year. We aim to create an effective teaching-learning atmosphere for the academic excellence of the students w.r.t the subject content, time-management, confidence building etc needed for these examinations. In addition to the academic training, we wish to inculcate the attributes of equality, humility, and selfless service (Sewa) to produce better human beings for the service of the society.

Programs

The course curriculum of the 3-year BA (Social Studies) degree is specifically designed keeping in mind the course content of the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Thus, the training of the students for the UPSC Examination starts from the day they are admitted. In the third year of the degree, on the basis of merit (CGPA => 8.0) the students are selected for entry into a “Target Batch” and are provided rigorous training for the next two years. For this purpose, a professional academy is also engaged.

  • Eligibility for Graduation course

10 + 2 (12th, Senior Secondary in any stream) pass or appearing in March 2026

Direct admission to the 2-year Target Batch is made on the basis of an entrance examination for which the eligibility is Graduation from a recognized institution. However, the students of the 3-year BA (Social Studies) degree with CGPA => 8.0, are also eligible to appear in this test. In case, they fail to get admission, they proceed for the third year of the degree and are assisted for preparation of UPSC Civil Services Examination.

The candidates graduated from a recognised University/College and who have been born not later than 1st August, 2007 shall be eligible to register for the UPSC Target Batch (2026-28)

Dr. Kamaljit Singh
Professor (Dr.) Kamaljit Singh received his PhD degree in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India in 1989. He was a postdoctoral fellow for two years (1993-1994) at the National Institute of Organic Chemistry (CSIC), Madrid, working on carbohydrate chemistry. He has pursued varied research interests spanning from Synthetic Organic/Medicinal Chemistry (Antimalarials) to Chemistry of Materials (Organic Semiconductors, Nonlinear Optical Materials) and is the author of over 175 research papers (Scopus h index 40). He has authored several reviews and contributed invited book chapters in several books published by international (Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, American Chemical Society) publishing houses and has guided 24 Ph.D. scholars for Ph.D. degrees. In recognition to his contributions in Chemical Sciences, he was awarded a Bronze Medal by the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), Bangalore in 2009. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, India and is also a recipient of the Professor K. Venkataraman endowment lecture award (2015) instituted by Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. He was nominated by Indian National Science Academy and The Royal Society, London as a visiting scientist at University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology, UK. Later on, he was selected as a visiting fellow by The British Council, UK to visit UMIST, UK where he undertook advanced research in Chemistry and Technology of a variety of organic Materials. He has been a Brain pool Visiting Fellow (2015) at Kangwon National University, South Korea. He was selected by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India for the Leadership in Academic Professions programme and visited Harvard University, USA in Harvard Graduate School of Education for a short stay. He has delivered several invited lectures in South Korea, Canada, UK, Spain, Turkey and several IITs/NIPER/IISER/Universities and institutes in India and abroad.
